About Alice

Tailor-Made Care

My ethos is ‘small yard, big results’ and this is down to the bespoke, tailor-made care each individual horse is given. I look at each horse and assess their needs, from their training programme and race planning to their dietary requirements and healthcare routines – every horse is looked at individually and a bespoke programme is formed to meet their every need to ensure their maximum potential.

Owner Involvement

I have built a great team around me and everyone in the yard has the horse’s care and well-being at the core of what they do.

It is important to me that my owners are involved in every step of their racehorse’s journey, and I encourage them to visit the yard often and feel part of our team, as well as enjoy a day at the races.

I’ve been told “my horses really want to run and look like they enjoy their racing”, and that is exactly what I’m aiming for every day.

My Background in Horses

Horses have always been a part of my life, from a young age I competed at Pony Clubs and on the international eventing circuit, and a career in the horseracing industry was always destined.

I gained a lot of experience working for prominent trainers Henrietta Knight, Mick Channon and David Simcock, had a spell working in Australia at Warwick Farm and Royal Randwick learning about trackwork and speed, and rode 11 winners as an apprentice and amateur jockey.

Laying the Groundwork

I started up a successful pre-training business in Newmarket, breaking in and pre-training youngsters for Roger Varian, William Haggas and Blue Diamond Stud and offered rest and rehabilitation services to horses out of training.  Over the four years, this provided me with a great grounding on which to build my training career, having been hands-on at every level of a racehorse’s development and journey to being a racehorse.

Training

In February 2021, I took out my license and set up training at historic Cadland Cottage Stables, occupying a prime location at the foot of the famous Warren Hill gallops in Newmarket.

We celebrated our first winner within three weeks of saddling our first runner, have raced in the UK, Ireland, France, the UAE and the USA and doubled our winners year on year.

At the start of 2024 we took the opportunity to relocate the older horses to the fantastic facility at Machell Place Stables, a stones throw from Cadland Cottage and Warren Hill.

Our Facilities

Cadland Stables is one of the most historic stables in HQ, it appears on the earliest detailed map of Newmarket, issued in 1768, and is steeped in horseracing history.

Today, the yard has all the typical modern conveniences of a racing yard, but the crown of the jewel is its location. The gates of the yard open onto Warren Hill gallops, part of the state-of-the-art Jockey Club Estates that offer 2,500 acres of maintained training grounds, 50 miles of turf gallops and 14 miles of artificial tracks each varying in length, surface and gradient. The quality of the gallops is carefully protected to ensure the highest quality surface every single day.

We also have a host of training aids available to us, from equine swimming pools, spas, water treadmills to massage therapists, dentists, farriers and world-class vets based in Newmarket.

In January 2024, we opened the new year by adding a new yard at Machell Place Stables on Old Station Road in Newmarket. The beautiful, historic yard dates back to 1850 and is already a lucky yard for us, our first runner from the yard was a winner – let’s hope the good luck continues!
